After the unit Order of the Arrow election, a Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or Scouter is considered a candidate until completion of the Ordeal. Always remember that you were honored by your peers, who elected you to the Order because of your camping ability and Scouting spirit. They set you apart as one from whom they expect much. They expect you to give leadership in camping and cheerful service. You must resolve, therefore, not to let them down!
Quelqueshoe Lodge Ordeals
Dear Ordeal Candidate,
Congratulations! You have been elected as a candidate for membership in the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America’s National Honor Society. Its purpose to:
Recognize those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and through that recognition cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrant similar recognition.
Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship as essential components of every Scout’s experience, in the unit, year-round, and in summer camp.
Develop leaders with the willingness, character, spirit and ability to advance the activities of their units, our brotherhood, Scouting, and ultimately our nation.
Crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.
The Purpose of the Ordeal
It is the purpose of the Ordeal to have the candidate reflect on his own Scout life and character and come to a deeper understanding of the Scout Oath and the principles of the Order.
